Since 25 May 2018, the Data Protection Authority (the “DPA”) has succeeded the Commission for the Protection of Privacy (better known as the “Privacy Commission”), which was established through the Privacy Act of 8 December 1992. With the Act of 3 December 2017 (the “Act”), the DPA has become the new Belgian independent supervisory authority responsible for ensuring compliance with the fundamental principles concerning the protection of personal data.
